Kerry Huffman
Pastor of Discipleship and Young Adults
khuffman@southlandchurch.org
Kerry Huffman is the pastor of discipleship and young adults at Southland, but he gets a kick out of seeing people of all ages and all walks of life grow in their journey with Christ. As a former children’s pastor, hospice volunteer and missionary, he’s had his share of amazing God stories.
Kerry is sometimes described by others as comical and fun, but he’s serious about helping people develop a deeper walk with Christ so that they can impact those that are in their spheres of influence. He’s also a self-described political junkie, and he couldn’t imagine a life without books.
Kerry holds a B.A. in missions and Christian education from Ohio Christian University, a degree in clinical pastoral counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary and an M.A. in religion and spiritual formation from Northwest Nazarene University.
Kerry’s favorite God story:
When I moved to the inner city as a missionary, I was asked by a man at the gas station if I would give him a ride. Being young and thinking I could save the world, I told him yes. Long story short, I had just become the driver of the getaway car as he was planning to rob a small store downtown. God gave me courage to tell him I would do no such thing. He became irritated and insisted I must be a policeman. I told him instead, that I was a missionary—I had moved to Stockton to help make life better for people like him by introducing them to Jesus Christ. The man began to weep and tell me what a mess his life had become. We pulled off the highway and talked. We prayed and he accepted Christ as his Savior.
