About a decade ago, Steve and Stephanie Schellin sensed God calling them to something new. With nine other couples, the decision was made to start Southland and what we see today is the result of that calling.
Steve graduated from Ohio Christian University and entered the world of politics, working for an Ohio congressman. Eventually he returned to his call to ministry and has served over 35 years as a college administrator, youth pastor and administrative pastor as well as other leadership positions with national and international ministry organizations. In addition, Steve travels the globe providing training to Christian leaders throughout Europe, Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Steve never meets a stranger and truly loves people. However, he's not all business. Steve enjoys hobbies like golf (really bad at it), basketball (loves to set a good pick) and reading (not sure if this is a hobby or work). Of course, his greatest love is his amazing family. Steve and Stephanie have been married for 35 years and have two children. Meredith lives in Washington D.C. and Landon lives in Lancaster, Ohio. Both are gainfully employed (phew!) and heavily involved in ministry in their local churches.
Most of all, Steve is very passionate about knowing and serving Jesus. He always says, "If I could say only one thing to the world, it would be 'Meeting Jesus is the best thing that will ever happen to you.'"
Administrative & Pastoral Care Pastor
Kerry has been at Southland since January of 2011. Prior to coming to Southland, he ministered at churches in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Greenwood, Indiana and Lancaster, Ohio.
Kerry is a graduate of Ohio Christian University and Northwest Nazarene University. He serves as an Associate Trainer for Equip, an organization which helps develop leaders globally. In his spare time Kerry likes to run and read.
Worship Arts Pastor
Pastor Phill loves to develop people in Worship Ministry. He has a bachelor's and master's degree from Kentucky Christian University. He has been married to his wife, Jennifer, since 2003 and they have three children: Nathan (born in 2005), Luke (born in 2007) and Alyssa (born in 2009). When he's not busy with Worship Ministry, he loves riding bikes and lifting weights with his sons, and eating ice cream with his daughter.
Pastor Nate has always had a passion for young people and loves to see them succeed. He has a bachelor's and master's degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and prior experience as a children's pastor. He and his wife, Chelsea, have been married since 2016. When he's not busy with ministry, he likes to watch movies, play basketball, and spend time with his family and friends.
Discipleship & Children's Director
Stephanie has been teaching children for over 30 years. She has a master's degree in Christian Education. More importantly, she just loves sharing Jesus' love with the youngest ones of Southland. Stephanie has been a college professor, an elementary school principal, a children's camp director and a church children's ministry administrator. She makes learning the Bible fun while at the same time helping kids worship Jesus with all their hearts. Stephanie’s passion for teaching God’s word and education enables her in helping Southland’s Community groups with curriculum and group facilitation. Stephanie isn't pouring herself into our kids, she enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her family.
Marcie has called Southland her church home since it's inception in 2009. During that time, she has served in a variety of ministries, including the Worship Team as a vocalist. "God has given me a desire and the ability to support the leaders of our church with my administrative and organizational skills. My time and talent are gifts from the King to be used for His glory." Marcie is married to Robert. Together they are enjoying their growing family of three children, two bonus daughters (daughters-in-law) and three grandchildren.
Director of The Learning Zone
Linda Chrenko's passion is to help children grow in their faith, as well as learn social skills. She has twenty-plus years' experience as a preschool teacher. Linda's first opportunity to serve as a director was as an intern for a Parents' Day Out program where, she believes, God was training her for her current role at Southland Community Church.
Linda would say one of her greatest accomplishments has been the joy and satisfaction of raising her three children with her husband and helping them grow into successful men and women who love God. "Our family has grown from five to fifteen with four wonderful grandchildren." Linda is the founding director of The Learning Zone @ Southland, and along with her administrator, Cindy Arnot, and her wonderful team, has grown this ministry to one of the largest ministry-based daycares/preschools in Indiana.
