Celebrate Christmas

We all like to say we "celebrate" Christmas. But, what are we celebrating? We can reduce it to simply saying, "Jesus is born!" Well, why is His birth worth celebrating over any other birth? Christmas at Southland is going to be an amazing celebration of all the reasons we enjoy the reality that Jesus has come to our world.

December 1st | Celebrate Who He Is | Isaiah 9:1-7 and 11:1-9

Before we celebrate Christmas, we have to know and understand WHO it is we're celebrating. The prophet Isaiah gave us a glimpse into the nature and character of the One who would come to the world. He made it clear that the Savior of the world would be God with us, a King and a Counselor. What more can we know about the One we celebrate at Christmas? To prepare, read Isaiah 9:1-7 and 11:1-9.

December 8th | Celebrate Who He Came To Reach | Matthew 2:1-12

Scripture tells us that Magi, rulers from east of Israel, followed a bright star to the place where Jesus was born. Why was this an important part of the Christmas story? It was an example of the reality that God's plan of salvation was for every human being on earth, including those from outside of God's chosen people. We celebrate that Jesus came for every person on earth, no matter their race, color or social status. To prepare, read Matthew 2:1-12.

December 15th | Celebrate Why He Came | Matthew 1:18-25

An angel made a declaration to Jesus' earthly father, Joseph. He told him Jesus would save His people from their sins. Without this plan of God, no one would be worthy to enter His presence. There is no greater reason to celebrate Christmas than to know our failures won't define us. He brings us forgiveness and eternal life by coming to the world. To prepare, read Matthew 1:18-25.

December 22nd | Celebrate The Hope He Brings | Colossians 1:15-23

Christmas is just the beginning of our celebration. Once we embrace Who Jesus is and receive the grace He came to offer, we begin an eternity of celebration. Even though the world is full of darkness, violence and despair, we celebrate that Christmas brings us hope. To prepare, read Colossians 1:15-23.

December 29th | Celebrate Your Great New Life | Luke 4:14-21

We end our celebration series where we started, with the prophet Isaiah. Except this time, we find Jesus Himself reading the prophecy about the One who will come to heal the broken and release the captive. Ultimately, we celebrate Christmas because it offers you a great new life. To prepare, read Luke 4:14-21.
