What Jesus Said About Himself

Before we can believe and accept anything Jesus said, we have to understand Who He is and why what He taught is important. What did Jesus say about Himself? Do other people affirm His claims about His position and authority? Why should I listen to anything He had to say?

February 4 | I AM | John 8:48-59

Jesus got into a discussion with a bunch of religious leaders who were challenging His authority to speak for God.  They even accused Him of being possessed by a demon.  Not only did Jesus explain that He has been sent by God to speak to our world, He actually declared He is God when He said, “...before Abraham was born, I am!”  What did He mean?  What does “I Am!” have to do with me.  To prepare, read John 8:48-59.

February 11 | I Am the Light of the World | John 8:12-20

We all need wisdom to guide us.  The question is, who do we get our wisdom from?  We’re walking through a world that is full of pain, struggle and darkness.  Jesus claimed He is the one who shines the light on our dark path.  What did He mean when He said He is the light of the world?  What does that have to do with me?  To prepare, read John 8:12-20.

February 18 | I Am the Bread of Life | John 6:22-40

Jesus' disciples had seen Him perform miracles. They even saw Him walk on water through a stormy night. They wanted to see more supernatural acts, but Jesus held off. He wanted them to understand that He could be trusted and was sent to give them what they really needed. What does Jesus being the "bread of life" have to do with my life? To prepare, read John 6:22-40.

February 25 | I Am the Good Shepherd | John 10:11-18

Jesus often used metaphors to teach people about Who He was and how the life He offered was coming straight from God Himself. When Jesus said He was a "Good Shepherd," He was talking about the compassionate care He was offering to everyone who believed in Him and followed Him. How does Jesus as the Good Shepherd impact my life? To prepare, read John 10:11-18.
