CALM in the Chaos

So much is happening in our neighborhoods and in the world that seems to fit the prophecies of Jesus about the end of time. Is this it? Have we finally reached the finish line for a fallen planet earth? How can we be ready if He comes today?

December 3 | Calm Before The Storm | Isaiah 9:1-7

The prophets offered warning and hope to the people when they were in the middle of suffering. Long before the storms of life came upon God’s people in the first century, Isaiah made a promise that a Child would be born to bring peace and calm. God kept that promise and continues to offer confidence in the midst of chaos. To prepare, read Isaiah 9:1-7.

December 10 | Calm In The Crisis | Luke 1:26-38

Where is God when the unexpected happens?  Mary found herself in a potentially lonely place, chosen by God for a unique and special assignment.  Despite her holy calling, it created all kinds of complications in her life.  Yet, she got a lot of help to remain calm in her crisis.  The same can happen for you.  To prepare, read Luke 1:26-38.

December 17 | Calm In The Catastrophe | Matthew 2:13-23

We can be doing everything right and things can still go wrong.  Sometimes we’re required to run when a catastrophe is looming.  Mary, Joseph and Jesus had to escape for their lives when they heard King Herod was looking for them.  He wasn’t going to congratulate them either.  How do we remain calm in the catastrophes of life?  To prepare, read Matthew 2:13-23.

December 24 | Calm In The Confusion | Luke 2:8-20

Often things happen we don’t understand.  Just when we’ve settled into a routine, something happens to interrupt our plans.  The Shepherds were caught off guard when the angel showed up to announce the birth of Christ.  It was a crazy experience having an angel choir provide a strange but glorious concert.  Nonetheless, they found calm in their confusion and did what they were told to do.  To prepare, read Luke 2:8-20.

Candlelight Service | Calm In The Conflict | Luke 2:21-35

Have you ever felt conflicted?  There is something good out there to grasp, but it’s going to take some suffering and struggle to attain it.  Do I go for it, even though it will be hard and painful?  When Jesus was presented at the temple, Joseph and Mary were amazed at what Simeon the priest said about Him. But just as they enjoyed the good news, Simeon also told them their child would cause the falling of many in their nation.  Still, they were able to stay calm, even if they were conflicted.  To prepare, read Luke 2:21-35.
